Waiting for my invitation to arrive, walking with a deadman

It's been a while since i updated, crazy days. Lets see, last time i had just hurt my self snowboarding, since then i recovered and went again, and did nearly the same thing again, minus the concussion, although that just meant i was conscious for the actual leg injury, which was really quite painful, so i'm once again recovering, i have to say i'm getting sort of tired of limping, but such is the price i pay for awesome, i think i'm getting to the point where if i don't push my limits too far i'll be able to have a lot of fun snowboarding without hurting myself at all, which means i'll be able to go a lot more often. Unfortunately this comes both at the end of the season and as i'm getting too close to my mission to risk any debilitating injuries, so i think i'm done for a couple years, unless i go to the swiss alps on my mission, but even then i doubt they'll let me snowboard on p-days.

Speaking of missions, i've started filling out my papers, which is exciting. My Bishop told me that i need to cut my hair, which will be interesting. I haven't gotten a haircut all year, it's fun to have long hair, and i'm guessing i'm going to look about 18 years younger with short hair, but whatever, it has to happen sometime, it'll be nice to not have to keep pushing my hair out of my face.

I've grown fairly broke over the last few weeks, although Colin spotted me some cash and i'm supposed to be getting $50 dollars in the mail in a couple days. I need to remember to do my taxes since that'll get me a bunch more money so that hopefully i won't have to donate plasma for a while.

I went to Amy's for Easter Break/the end of spring break, and that was lots of fun. I hadn't seen Amy in quite a while, and i hadn't seen her kids since one of them was a baby and the other one didn't exist. I must say, those kids are pretty adorable, Carter is much cuter in person than in pictures. We couldn't do anything to crazy awesome since i wasn't really in peak physical condition, but we went to the beach, and the farmers market and played games and all those fun times. The flight back was pretty long, since we had a 2hour scheduled layover in San Fran and then our plane was an hour late coming from Boise...stupid Boise, so i got back last night at around midnight, and then of course stayed up for a couple hours to watch the end of lost and post some pictures on facebook, i think everyone who reads this has my facebook, so i won't post them here. But yeah, all in all the last couple weeks have been lots of fun, i go back to biloxi in 5 weeks. Madness. I realized that i'm Utah is quickly becoming home to me, since jackson is missing family and biloxi is missing friends, i have both here, so yeah.

That's all, i have physics homework and i have to design my own personal Hell and describe it and those in it in a four page paper, so i have a long night of figuring out ways to procrastinate ahead of me. Auf Wiedersehen

!XIX!

I think 19 might me one of the more insignificant birthdays, but its roman numberals have a nice symmetry. So far i've had a pretty stellar 15 minutes of birthday, and today i've gotten a few presents so that's cool. This morning i went a cashed the check from Grandparents Perkes, happily there's a zions bank open on saturday (in smiths! It was hard not to spend it all in smiths right then) Then i came back and found two presents in the mail, one from my parents (which wasn't a present at all...well i suppose it was, just not for me, but it comes with 30 dollars being added to my savings account, so that's rad) and one from Katie and Logan. Now i can go under cover and a mustached crime fighter using my Cat Gun.

Like So:

I also managed to finally photograph the elusive family of deer than roam around Utah campus:

Otherwise today was pretty uneventful. I kinda got another present in my roommate getting a cheap as free snowboard and boots that fit me and i imagine i'll be able to borrow from time to time. I have a couple complaints about my current roommate, but i can't deny that he is a super nice guy. Plus i found out last night that he knows Tai Chi, which is pretty cool.

Lets see...in other news, i may be getting a job soon. I had a job interview yesterday at Jamba Juice and it went really well. They probably don't like that i'll only be there for 3 months, but otherwise i think i'm a shoe-in. I actually had a really great day yesterday, i meant to make a blog about it. Orange Juice and 33% Recycled paper and other exciting adventures. I found out yesterday night that i've spent 60 dollars in the past month or so, that was a bit surprising, but with grandparent money, parent money, pain survey money (they're going to electrocute me and i'm going to answer questions about it for $15 an hour), plus the impending job i should be doing ok, which is good because in one month i'm going to have to shell out 50 bucks on Smash Brothers Brawl...it's kinda bad because i'll only have it for threeish months before the mission, i could just play Adam's...whatever. I think if i have a job when it comes out i'll buy it, because i should be finding myself with a little bit of pocket money.

So that's about all that's going on here. I'll probably write sunday night about this past year, but until then, enjoy the sunset picture i took on the way back from my job interview.

Loads off my back:

So far the past 24 hours has just been full of happy discoveries. First, talking to my mom, i found out that the house is sold and we're completely out of debt. Woo!

Then i found out that, contrary to what i had discovered earlier that day, the wisdom tooth study that pays hundreds of dollars is not a myth, it just isn't going through the university. It's actually an anesthesia test where they're using something other than codeine to see how it works, in search of a pain killer that doesn't run the risk of doubling as a patient killer. I'm a little wary of drug tests, but i think i'm going to call and see what the deal is, because it seems legit; it's a real oral surgeon and getting paid to have my wisdom teeth removed would be pretty stellar.

This morning, after rolling out of bed into calculus, i found out that i got a 100 on my midterm, which made me tres happy. Ever since the beginning of the year i've been worried about failing that class, not cutting it as a math major, and losing my scholarship, especially since technically i wasn't supposed to take that class, having only a 3 on the BC Calc test. I do need to really learn Maclauren series, which i've always struggled with, it being the last thing we learned, during a time when i was quickly losing my motivation in school. So yeah, that made me pretty happy.

Then, i came back and showered (i really don't know how i'd live without showers, i think without them, hygiene problems aside, i'd quickly devolve into a stressed out mess), ate, and decided to tackle the financial issues between me and the university. Basically over the past couple months i've been baffled by how much money i'm owing the university, and it just hasn't been adding up. Before college i had figured that i'd make it through the entire first semester with a few hundred to spare, not accounting for book costs and random spending, but book costs and random spending aside, i found myself owing the university 1600 dollars. This wasn't helped by the fact that MTA has yet to give me the 750 dollars they owe me, but even without that, it shouldn't have been that much.

Well, today i discovered that instead of giving the money to me to give to housing like i had been expecting, they credited the extra money back to my mom's credit card, in the amount of 1500 or so dollars. So now everything makes sense, my housing bill is paid for, and i just have to wait for the card to be processed before i can register for classes.

Huge sigh o' relief.

In other news, life has been pretty average. We drove down to provo on a whim on friday night and hung out with some people that my friends knew. At one point we ended hanging out in the apartment complex that amy had lived in once upon a time, which was thoroughly surreal. I thought about calling jessie or buckley, but i don't know how i would feel about my cousin calling me at 11 o'clock on a friday night to see if i wanted to hang out, so yeah. Also, BYU honor code is surprisingly constraining when you're not expecting to get kicked out of the dorms at midnight, and then the apartments at 1:30. So we went to denny's and got some food and then drove home.

Saturday was way fun, we had the funnest football game ever involving a really very clever fake punt that we ran about 40 yards for a touchdown (although the refs didn't give us the touchdown and we had to run it for half a yard) we beat wyoming 50-0 in what the opposing coach had called a guaranteed win for wyoming. It's really a shame Utah had such a rough early season, or else we would be in 2nd with BYU in first, our last game deciding the winner, but alas.
So that's been my last few days, i'm pretty happy right now, it's a shame i have physics in an hour. Oh, and i bought more contacts over the weekend, it's great to have them again, although my eyes had gotten mostly used to glasses, and it's weird, but my glasses aren't quite the right prescription, and they're crooked, so it's nice to be able to see better again. So yeah, good stuff all in all.

"You Never Can Tell With Bees"

I was just gripped with a panic at the idea of having missed one of my classes today, but it was baseless. I misjudged how much time there is between 10:30 and 12:55, and so i've been getting pretty severely bored in the computer lab. I wish i could be reading gilgamesh, but i got the wrong copy, so that'd be kinda a waste. I must remember to find something more time consuming to do between Calculus and Math Colloquium, so that i don't get so bored. I'm thinking exercise might be a good option. Nothing much has been happening, i had my first American Institutions class, which was fun, and looks like it'll be a fun class, a sort of combination of Williams and Jones, which makes for some enjoyable classes.

My roommate asked me if i was homesick yesterday (by the way, i really wish roommate had one m) and i realized that i really haven't much. I mean i miss my family a bit, but nothing to the point i would call a sickness. I guess having lived by myself for quite a bit of this summer probably helped to dull the blade of home sickness.

I bought all my books, the amount of money i'm spending is a little overwhelming. Especially considering i still am going to buy a bike and a calculator. It's good that i worked a lot this summer, or else i'd be pretty poor. Anyways, i'm going to go eat my meager lunch and then maybe go to the book store, and hopefully by then it'll be time for class.

I'm Rumbly in my Tumbly.

"It's my blog...it's kinda a big deal"

I've been bad about updating consistantly, but, in my defense, a lot has been going on lately. I graduated. That's pretty monumental i guess. It doesn't really feel monumental, i hope other big milestones in my life are less anticlimactic. Despite what people say, i haven't been building up to graduation for 4 years of my life, i've been building up to college, and being out of high school. Being out of high school is not at all dissapointing, and is every bit as independent and enjoyable as i had hoped. Thus far, it's been significantly less productive, and i still haven't gotten in the habit of working out. My New Month's resolution is to start monday working out consistantly and keep going through the entire month of june. I'm going to swim too, so that i'll be in shape for backpacking.

I went shopping today, completely on my own. It sounds kinda stupid, but it's the first time i've gone shopping completely independently for a long time, probably since the cambridge years. Usually i'll at least have to ask to borrow the car, and or clear some spending with the parentals, but today i just up and went after cashing my check, and then went to work.

I bought some sandals, some shorts, and some khakis from target, and i'm pretty happy with them. The sandals are, in truth, more of water shoes, but i like the way they look and this can be fodder for some new nick name. I also need to buy some new running/hiking shoes, but those are expensive, so i'm going to shop around some.

I got another Wii remote on wednesday night for a graduation present, which is pretty awesome. Now we can play 2 player boxing and tennis and baseball on the wii. And i downloaded Starfox 64 and Mariokart 64 for the Wii. I think i wasn't supposed to let logan know, but whatever.

Lets see...in other news i'm working a lot. That's taking away all my hang out time, so i'm having to be creative with my fun times, like in the mornings, or the middle of the night. Yesterday michael and spencer hung out at my house and we played video games and watched a movie until around 5am. That was a bad plan, i was sleepy this morning, and though it was mostly okay, spencer missed his grandparents leaving, i feel bad about that, I really failed at being woken up by my alarm. I don't even remember it at all, at some point i managed to turn it off without waking up. So that's something.

I think that's all that's been going on right now. I got payed today, so i have almost enough money to completely pay off the parents. That's pretty fun. Oh, we now have a house rented down in biloxi. I say we, i really mean they. I'm never really going to live in it, which is weird. But because of that i have to pack up all my stuff and be pretty much packed for college sometime in the middle of june, apparently i'm living pretty much on my own for the second half of june, which is going to be a little weird, probably some fun, hopefully i'll stay productive. We'll see. I think that's all the news from the Ammon front. Stay tunes for the next exciting installment of Ammons blog.

Nothing happens, nobody comes

My 41st post. 41 is a thoroughly meaningless number, not nearly as awesome as 42, or as monumental as 40, but it seems like a bit of a milestone just the same...moving on:

Once again i find myself without motivation. I wish i knew how to make amazing projects, because while i can churn out mediocre - decent projects all night long (so far i've only falled asleep once tonight, happily, i've been snoozing my alarm so it'd wake me up every 15 minutes or so if i fell asleep) really outstanding projects that are remembered for years and years elude me. Maybe i'm just not that kind of person.

Anyhow, today was pretty fun, although there was a definitive lack of swimming and swan diving. we got back from Field Trippin' around 8:40, and i started on my review project. First i found a tree, i'm not really happy with it, but i suppose it'll do. Then i started reading Waiting for Godot for inspiration. Waiting for Godot is not inspiring. It is depressing and oppressing and suppressing and various other ppressings that don't come to mind at the moment. I have a general idea of what i need to talk about, but i'm not sure how i should say it.

In other news, sunday i gave a talk (a sort of mini-sermon thing we do in my church that are assigned to members and such instead of having a preacher. I dunno if other churches do anything like this) which was like 15 minutes long. That's pretty long for me, especially considering that writing a 5 minute speech proved to be too much for me. So that was kinda rockin'. Now i'm just procrastinating. Work is busy, but money is great. Whoever said money can't buy happiness was either very poor or very depressed, because money does buy me happiness. I suppose you have to have some foundational happiness for that to work though...or perhaps i'm shallow and easily pleased. Either way. Back to work.

Saturday, April 28, 2007

this weekend feels like a bit of a waste kinda. Well, mostly Saturday. Friday was lots of fun. But because of work i started hanging out at around 11:30, and didn't get home around 3. I slept in until 1ish, and have to go to work at 4:15, so there's not a whole lot i can do in between. I am probably going to get mad tips from yesterday though, so that's kinda nice, but i'm not really having any time to spend them, so yeah. I remember how this goes, but i figure once summer kicks in (in no more than 3 weeks) i'll be able to have tons of fun. i'm looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to my pay check friday, i can't decide whether to buy a Wii or a Cell phone, but right now i'm leaning towards a Wii, probably by then i'll have enough money to buy a cell phone in tip outs, so i may do both. We shall see.

This friday is Spiderman 3, i really want to see it at midnight, but i have to wake up at around 6:30 the next morning to drive to laurel for a piano competition, so i dunno if that's going to work out. I'll have that friday off though, so i'll probably just see it during the day sometime or something.

It's a Hit

Man, today was a super day, not super enjoyable, (although i did have fun) just super productive. I have earned no less than 50 dollars today, and recieved nearly 40. I painted the house, played ultimate frisbee, hung out with friends, went to work, gave ice cream to children, gave more ice cream to children, worked a lot more, cleaned up a lot, finally made it home around 12 and ate dinner and now i'm needing to start on my english themes, but i'im finding myself short on motivation.

I need to go to sleep. I worked it out and right now i'm getting nearly 8 dollars an hour, which is crazy awesome. I hope it keeps going that way. It should have been even more but apparently some people are crappy tippers, and about 1/2 of my tips (and all of it when i'm not in the scoop shop) comes from the tip pool, i could make twice as much. So that's pretty sweet. The way it's looking, my next pay check i may be able to buy a wii. That would be crazy cool. Alright, i'm going to either do my project, or attempt to take a power nap. Power naps are dangerous, because there's a high risk of just falling asleep, but i think at the point i am right now i can't really think enough to finish my project. I can type this garbage, but this hardly takes thought. Apparently writing makes me make decisions, hopefully i'll be back up in a few hours, for now i'm going to power nap.

This Easter Morn

Ew, i'm updating this from Internet Explorer. It clicks when i click stuff. Anyways, today was a fun easter. There are our happy easter eggs. I worked really hard on one of them, and then the other three were pretty weak. We played King Egg, and i lost. I didn't win a single round. it made me sad, but i live. Lets see, what else.

Cami's in from Utah, that's fun, we're kicking butt and playing games, or watching movies and playing games...either or. I'm getting dangerously behind in my movie reviews, i have the illusionist, Men in Tights, Unbreakable, part of Superman, and some others, anyway, i'll take care of those later.

I already said i got a job i think, but i don't remember how much i talked about it. Orientation is on thursday, and a whole mess of people i know are going to be working there. It's awesome. I have to buy some shoes that don't slip on slippery floor. Here's a list of things i need to buy:
Cell Phone - I think this might be the first thing i get. I'll probably just hit up eBay or something
Cell Phone bill/other parental debt - Yeah, i'm in the hole quite a bit. Between phones bills, prom, and other things, it's a problem.
Watch - My watch is pretty busted up.
Wii - Originally i'd said this would be the first thing i was going to buy, but i think i need to do those things first, or at least the cell phone and some of the bills...
Wii games - that'll probably take care of one full paycheck.
Friendly Debt - I don't like being in debt to my friends, i owe josh 10, caitlin and meghan a few, and probably some others i'm not thinking of right now.
Presents - I know what i have in mind, it's just going to take a bit of Capital. I guess i should take care of this before everyone head stheir seperate ways...how sad.

That's about it. I'll think of more things while i have money, and i'm sure clothes and food will work their way in there. Oh, and part of my wages will be in daily cash tips from a tip pool. I like that.

That's about all i guess.

JEORB!

Woo, today i got a job at Sal and Mookies. It makes me happy.

Friday, March 30, 2007

hm, it's been some time, lets make some updates:

I'm going to University of Utah, Penn shot me down, which was mildly suprising, MIT did as well, which was not at all suprising, BU is way too expensive, as is BC, although i haven't heard from them yet, and Byu, i dunno, i just don't think that's my type of place. I'm sure i'd have fun there, but i dunno. Anyway, the U will be essentially free, which is a big plus. Anyway, i know where i'm going to college now. How bizarre.

Also, i'm going to prom, albeit stag. There is still some technical possibility of me manning up and asking somebody, but it's a slim one, and would require said somebody to not have a ticket, and still want to go to prom. Anyway, we'll see how that turns out, but don't hold your breath.

Lets see, in other news, my stats grade will go up, that's exciting. Also i turned in an application for a sweet restaurant in fondren that i want to work in and think i have a good chance. I really need a job. The impending doom of Prom is a little scary on top of my already unreasonable debt. It's true it's only like 30 dollars or so, but the fact that i have no income, and that i've almost never been in debt to anyone, is no fun.

Um, that's about all. I'm tired. MMTA tomorrow. Cami comes in next week, prom the week after that, 2 weeks, ap exams, 2 weeks of nothing, graduation. Madness

Sunday, March 25, 2007

I just got my acceptance letter from BU, which is pretty rockin. I also checked my financial aid status there, and between loans and grants and scholerships and stuff i'll get $39,000 given to me. The problem is that that still requires me to come up with around $8,000, most for housing, not to mention the fact that around 5 or 6 thousand of the 39 are loans, so i'll have to pay those back eventually.

Hard decisions. I hear from Penn thursday. I'm hoping i'll get in there and have a healthy scholership. I'm really not sure whether i'd rather go to Penn or the U, especially if Penn will cost me more money. Oh well.

Otherwise, life has been going pretty regularly. Prom is coming up, that means more decisions and, more ominously, lots and lots of money. I think i can probably get money for tickets from my savings account, allthough i'm not exactly supposed to do that, i'll have to convince the parentals that my senior prom is worth going into a little bit of debt to myself. I'm applying for jobs next week, so hopefully i'll be able to work a week or two before prom so that i'll have enough money to rent a tux. If worst comes to worst i can wear that weird one i got from mrs. polanski. But hopefully it won't come to that. On top of prom, i'm already in debt $30 to my parents, as well as various little mini debts here and there, plus some christmas/birthday presents i need to buy. Then i need to buy a Wii and some other things, so having a job is pretty important right now. I couldn't go to TMNT yesterday because i really didn't have any money. That was no fun.

In other news, Cami should be coming in soon. I wish i could buy a Wii by then, but it's not going to happen, due to prom. Fun will still be had though. I think that's about all that's going on here. I need to review The Hudsucker Proxy, but i'll do that later tonight i guess.
